The A/C in my 1987 Nissan V6 SE hasn't worked for about 5 years now. The blower works because I can feel the air blowing down by my feet. The vent selector is broke however because I cannot change where the air comes out. The green A/C light comes on as well. The only thing is that the air is not cold. Does anyone know what's wrong?

When the green light is on, look under the hood and see if the A/C compressor is turning. In other words, see if the clutch is engaging or if the outer pully (only) is turning.

If the clutch is not engaging, check for 12V at the clutch wire. (Blue?)

If you have power, our clutch is shot. If you don't have power, have a shop check your system's refrigerant pressures. Too low will cause the system to stop operating in an effort to save the compressor.

It's a fine line between clever and stupid.

The vent selector is attached to a cable that runs down to the heater core assembly just to the right of the gas pedal. The cable will attach to a large white wheel-looking contraption which rotates, closing and opening vent ducts depending on the setting you desire. Try breaking the wheel free with your hand or shoot some lube spray in there.

Is your vent selector electric or cable-operated? Mine is electric, while my friend's 95 SE used a cable. Mine is getting really slow to change these days.
