I might change out my oil pan today. The one currently installed in the truck has a huge dent causing the pan to leak oil.

Question, Do I really need to buy the front and rear gaskets? Usually I just make my own gasket.

If you've changed your oil pan before chime in please.

Absolutely. I've had a difficult time trying to seal up the front and rear "crank notches".

I'm going to wait until I have the gaskets to change out the pan.

You have to unbolt the front crossmember and lower the front axle to gain clearance fot the pan. The problem with that seems to be that you can't get the four bolts out without taking apart a rediculous amount of suspension.

One person's solution, that I read, was to drive the problem bolts back as far as possible, cut it off, and remove it that way. He replaced the bolts from the front, with the nuts on the back.

It's a fine line between clever and stupid.

You have to have the front axle out and basically all other front suspension components out also. I don't recommend taking a hit to your oil.

Once everything is gone it's pretty easy to get to. I decided to wait for the sas to change out my pan. I also waited till the truck was drivable so I can put the truck on the lift to change out the pan.

Well it pretty much was a pain in the arus. Took me all 10 hours Saturday to remove and replace the pan. even with a sas'd truck it's not easy.

It's pretty much straight forward installation. My problems was For the life in me I could not get the holes to align up properly. I was installing my last bolt on the pan and managed to drop the bolt into the oil pan. Has to remove everything once again.

What got me was I had to remove all my steering links to give enough roam to remove the oil pan. The oil pick up tube definitely goes to the very bottom of the oil pan.

I installed a good used non dented oil pan from a VG30I engine. I can certify first hand that the VG30I and VG30E use the same oil pan's. I'm willing to bet the lower half of the engine is the same also.

I also got to look and inspect the lower half of my engine. Goes to shoe I take good care of my engine because everything was clean, no sludge or build up anywhere I could see.
