SmileGot a weird problem, recently have had my front brakes looked at there fine, the problem is the sqweeking noise is still there, hence why i thought i would have the pads checked to see if there coming to the end of their life, but the noise is still there, the only time it stops when you reach between 15mph & 20 mph but its rather anoying, if theres any one who may know why, could you let me know, i then can sort it out if poss Chug

Sarah, sometimes pads just make noise/squeek a little.. But sometimes that means that they're at the end of their lifespan.

.. Did you watch the mechanic/ ask him about the noise? Or look at the pads yourself? If owner's take a more "proactive" role in what the mechanic is doing( stand outside the workbay and watch him work, or ask to come inside and take a look when things are torn apart) they usually come away w/ a beter understanding of what's going on ( and it keeps the mechaninc on their toes/ more honest).

The mechanic said the pads were fine and still had some life left on them?

Does it pull to the left or the right, or pulse?

I had an annoying squeeling once that went away at low speed and when the front hubs were engaged.

It turned out to be the bushings in my manual hubs going dry. It was a simple fix. I just removed them and regreased them.

It's a fine line between clever and stupid.

4wd? The last time I had a bad squeel in the front, it turned out to be a worn-out inner grease seal. The rubber had worn away and the spring was rubbing against the shaft. Does it go away when the hubs are locked?

SmileHi all, thanks for all your imput, it comes and goes, some days it wont do it, other days it will the only way i can describe the noise is its sounds like a hamster on a wheel, once you reach a certain speed it goes, so its on and off all the time, i will have to lock the hubs and see what it does, theres no sign of brake dust, is it easy enough to replace the inner seal? Smile

please lock the hubs- in the dirt only.

It's "easy" if your mechanically inclined , have the proper tools/ service manual, and experience doing it.

If something needs greasing in the wheel department, are there any areas to get the grease into easy and what grease would anyone recomend. Big Grin

I vote for bad wheel bearings. Jack the front end of the truck up so the tires are off the ground. Hold tire at 12 and 6 oclock positions and shake hard. If the tire moves AT ALL, wheel bearings need to be looked at.

And even if it doesn't shake, fresh grease is probably a good thing.

Check the brake dust shield to make sure it isnt contacting the rotor. Sometimes it will get a little bent and touch, sometimes the noise is only audible at low speeds.
