Alright im finally gonna try to get on putting my longer shocks after what 2yrs now haha. I need to move my upper shock mount up about 4in b/c my longer Pro Comps are almost fully compressed when on the stock mounts. So what are your suggestions? Is the stock one in front, one in back location still fine for offroadin' or should i move em? Got a 97 HB with 3in BDS aal's out back. thanks.

Our HB's are extremely limited in front end travel so moving the shock tower up isn't going to do any good. If it were me, I'd sell those shocks you have and buy something that fits.

Got any pics of your rig?

ditto. Might as well get you some new shocks that fit. Your not going to gain anything by adding longer shocks.

Shocks are just to make the ride nice. There not necessary to the operation of the vehicle. even on a sas'd vehicle longer shocks don't do anything.

You pretty much just buy the shocks you need.

Well my stock ones arent long enough, they bottom out. I understand what shocks do but shocks can also limit your travel. I just want to make sure i can take full advantage of what little flex my truck has. I cant afford to buy any more shocks either, i bought these a long time ago used. It is a 10in travel shock, so if it is fully compressed at the present mounting location, then if i move it up 4in then i should have 4in uptravel and 6 down, correct?

If you can, unbolt your shocks. Flex the rear as much as you can. Then take some measurements. You may not need to move it that much.

are you running low profile bumpstops? I can't really see another reasone why stock shock would be bottoming out. I know a longer one might because the tube is longer. I belive the one on each side setup is fine for off-roading, its purpose is to reduce axle/leaf wrap under load.

No, stock bumpstops out back. I have a suspension lift so when it droops the shock is the limiting factor. The shocks i have are too long to replace the stock ones so i want to move the upper mount up some to compensate.

why not buy the correct ones. I'm sure you could find them for like 50-60 bucks. and you could ebay your new ones that are too long. Is the trouble of re-locating the shock mount by 4" worth not buying the correct size for 50 bucks?

When youve bought something when you had the money and now you dont well it kinda makes a difference. I was told that all of the shocks that came with the SLs were 10in travel and i found these used.

As fare as out back Unless your going to cut a hole into the bet your not going to move the shock mounts up any.

You could weld new shock tabs on the axles, and weld on new upper shock taps somewhere els. Probably cost you 30+ in tabs.

Up front you would have to make your own custom front shock mounts. I'm sure you could come up with something.

I have 6-8 inches between the bed and the shock mount.

Ok, on my hardbody my rear shocks mount is welded at the top of the frame. Where is your upper shock mount located in relation to the frame?

You'll probably have to make your own chock tabs. I recommend researching peoples axle swap web sites to get ideas on custom shock mounts.

Well my mounts are in the same place, but i have a body lift so it gives me more room to work with. I planned on welding a piece of 1/4in plate to the frame after cutting off the stock location and welding a stud to it for the shock to mount on.

OK, this will work out back. Up front It's going to be a lot harder to do. I recommend just purchasing some longer used shocks up front.
