Alright, I grenaded the stock CL, and have opted to get a L&P CL.
I was trying to remove my PA so I could drill it out on the press, but that SOB will not come loose. I had gear pullers on it, but not an ideal set, the claws did not get the greatest bite. I thought sure I could break it free, but no luck. Any advise?? I might just have to drill it on the truck... later 86.5 Hardbody, 31-10.5-15 tires, lots of body trimming and body lift. Good luck, Mine was a PITA on the HB. I ended up beating the crap out of mine while the puller was on it. I got the puller as tight as as I could and I nailed it on the side with a 3# sledge. Took a while but it let go eventualy.

Use two equal sized hammers one on each side and hit the pitman at exact same time.
Hit like this (H P H) across from each other. Have the puller on it. I just drilled mine while it was on the truck, it's straight and it was easy. ------------------------------ 90, HB, SE, 4x4, 3"SL, 32's, Warns, and stuff |

Soak it with PB blaster or WD40 for a few days. Get a 3 jaw puller.

Um, you really, really, really don't need to remove the arm to drill it out. It's a piece of cake, very little material is removed. Just do it on the truck.

Here's how I did mine but this might not be the best way for you as you have plans to re-use your pitman arm..
http://nissan4wheelers.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/11260...10579211#54110579211 Get a angle grinder, cut a notch out of it, put the puller on it and away she'll come.. -- MattMan555 -- << 2000 Nissan X >> <<A lift and big tires >> << Now with Urine Protection >> |

If I wasn't going to re-use it, it would aready be cut off. So here is a question, are there seals around the shaft that might be affected if I heat the b!tch up with the torch. I had the puller on it, and that torch was tempting me, but I didn't want to melt any seals. That would be a full on cutting torch. This is a normal tactic on the farm, heat it up cherry and then beat the hell out of it!!! thanks 86.5 Hardbody, 31-10.5-15 tires, lots of body trimming and body lift. I use mapp gas to heat stubborn tie rod ends, and haven't managed to burn up even the rubber booties. The trick is that it doesn't need to be very hot to expand enough to come off. I've even heard of using a heat gun to do the trick. You need steady heat for a few minutes, enough to penetrate the thick metal. The outside part will expand enough to make the difference. I usually heat the part after applying a puller with good tension on it. Good luck.

As long as you do it the right way and heat just the pitman arm and not the sector shaft. I see no problems. Yes there is a seal in the lower section housing for the sector shaft.
But I would seriously just drill the arm while it's on the truck. Once you have it off how are you going to insure that it is drilled straight? A part like pitman arm is hard to posistion in the vise. I drilled my idler arm with my drill press and since there was really no straight reference point My pitman arm I think end up straighter. ------------------------------ 90, HB, SE, 4x4, 3"SL, 32's, Warns, and stuff |

GEEZUS, JUST DO IT ON THE TRUCK! It's stupid-easy, there's hardly any material to remove. Just lock the wheel and go to town. You'll have no problem keeping it straight.

Agreed. I did mine and had ZERO problems. You are only drilling out the very edge of the hole, and since it is tapered already, it forces the bit to go into the hole straight. It really isn't that hard.
