Hey guys My buddy has a 2000 X and would like to lift the rear up a couple of inches. We went to 4wheelparts today and they didn't have ANY ideas or any helpful info about how to lift or where to go to get info.

So I guess going to a place like that was a bad idea when you guys are all here and a million times more knowledgable than they are!

Here I go:

Where is a good place to get Shackles (that offer a couple inches of lift)?

How hard is install?

And if anyone is from the OREGON area where would be a good place to get these installed if its a bit to difficult to do?

Any help would be AWESOME! Thanks!

Rami

Calmini, Spencer Low Racing, 4x4parts.com all have rear lift shackles for an X. They run approximately 60 bucks which includes shipping. Not only are they relatively inexpensive for 1.5 inches of lift but they are a breeze to install less than 20 minutes per side.

These are install directions from DR in the "how to section"
Xterra Instructions

1. Lift the back of the truck up and get the back wheels off the ground using jackstands under the frame .
2. Remove the rear shocks.
3. Use a floor jack under the diff and jack up to where the diff is just resting on the jack.
4. Unbolt the leaf spring shackles (do one side at a time) at the rear shackle end (17mm nuts
5. Replace with the longer shackles and supplied hardware.

I bolded an important part. If you only jack up the diff you will find when you remove the old shackles the leaf springs will rocket up and be a bitch to pull down in order to put the new shackles in. Jacking at the frame will allow the leafs to sag and spring eye and hanger to open up to put the new shackle in. Oh yeah one more thing the exhaust can get in the way of either getting the old ones out or new ones in, wait till its cool then you can just muscle it out of the way if you need to.

Lower the spare tire out of the way first. That's the one thing I left out. It's an easy job.

The secret is that if you have the frame and the diff jacked up properly then you shouldn't have to fight very hard to get the old shackles to slide out. If it seems like the shackle is still holding the truck together and you have to pound on it with the BFH, something ain't right.
