Both inner CV Boots on my 2000 4WD V6 Xterra are torn. No funny sounds ... yet. I haven't been able to find any split boots to do a quick repair. I know that these aren't the best, but I thought it might get me by for a year or two since the shafts only spin in 4wd. I was hoping to avoid pulling those front axles apart.

Just buy some new inner boots. The inners are easy to replace - you do need to pull the halfshafts - there's how tos on this in the How To forum.

Just pick up the regular boots and do it. It is easier than you may think. Search the How-To forum for a write-up.

Basically, remove the hub.
Inside the hub, remove the circlip that retains the axle end.
Jack up the lower control arm and support the frame on a jack stand.
Remove the wheel.
remove the shock.
remove the caliper and hang it out of the way.
unbolt the upper ball joint.
Remove the 6 bolts that hold the half-shaft to the axle flange.
remove the axle.

remove the cap on the flange side by beating the cup toward the axle shaft.
With the cap popped out, remove the circlip that retains the inner joint.
remove the joint.
replace the boot/s

Put it all back together with new grease (usually supplied with the boot kit.)

It's a fine line between clever and stupid.

If you are removing the axles you might as well replace them. There only like $60 or so now.
