bleh. My drivers side motor mount is busted. I think it probably happened back when we pre-ran Log Corral when I was baja bashing up the hills on the power line road. Truck's been having trouble ever since. I did check the mounts like the Haynes says too back before I started the clutch replacement and things looked good and felt solid.

Desert Rat called it correctly today when he identified the tell-tale fan in the shroud noise as I repeatedly failed to climb the first hill coming out of the butcher jones parking lot at the coves.

On the bright side I did get to use my new crawler gears in the sand.

So I got an engine hoist (just the chain block and tackle not a shop crane) from Harbor Freight today and I've got until Wednesday before the new mount I ordered arrives to learn about removing motor mounts.

The picture is upside down. I think the single bolt shown on the bottom, that goes up on the truck, is what busted. I'll know for sure once I get it out of there.

I've never broken a bolt, but split two through the rubber. If your shroud's toast, I've still got that new one..

ETA- I've got a MM heat shield also.

That could be it, the bobsled shaped plate is way out of place compared to the passenger side and I don't know wtf I'm talking about.

This is what I did when I broke mine. Used some one inch heavy nylon strap and wrapped it around where the bolts are. Where the bolts are drill holes in the strap. Melt where you drilled to prevent fraying. Then bolt-in.

I'm hoping that if it ever breaks again it will prevent damage from jumping around. Plus most people don't have a welder or are afraid of melting the mount when welding (that would be me).

For future reference: If you loosen the top bolt up about 1/4", set the end of a long prybar on the edge of the mount next to the bracket on the block, and give it a good whack with a hammer, the engine will fall right back into place. Take it easy on driving and it won't pull back up over the lip and you can "limp" home.

I've broken two, been lucky lately haven't had one fail again, but now I have 2 R50 mounts for spares so the truck knows to behave!

Carl, I might get a new one and have you do that trick to another one if you wouldn't mind.

Broke one a couple of weekends back, just had the upper and lower bridged with a piece steel and welded together, held up to plenty of abuse the rest of the day.
