I heard that you guys here are working with a vendor to produce a rear locker for the X with 33 splines. Can some give me more scoop to it or point me to the discussion? I might be interested.

Much Appreciation Big Grin

Thanks!!

Wow, I wish we were, else I'd have one too.

I do have a question to the axle gurus tho....there's not part on the lockright that accepts the splines of the axle...what prevents from using the lockright on a 33 spline axle vs. a 31 spline one?

Hmmm... I must have got caught on the rumor world AGAIN Mad . Oh well, yeah, I have been meaning to ask the same question. The price on ARB has hiked up these days. It's like more than $1K with shipping, decent air hoses and compresor, oh the CO2 tannk that every one's taking about (else where). Then I was wondering, with that price why can't I have a custom 3rd member made that will take ANY locker. Anyway, I will look forward to axle gurus' responses.

Andy, a few of us have kicked that thought around, and basically, we couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work.

But, nobody has an extra LockRight and an open carrier sitting around for us to try it out on...

Got a question for you, though. Check your PM's.

Not sure what the incompatibility would be either, but I know one thing:

If it worked Calmini would be selling the crap out of them already. Instead they pulled it from their website a while back and now I see that Xterraparts.com has followed suit...

Yeah, a long time ago I spoke to Steve at Calmini, and to someone at Richmond Gear/Powertrax, both assured me that while the side gears don't get replaced and the actual spline count is not a factor, there is something else about the dimensions inside the carrier between the 31 and 33 spline versions that probibits the 31-spline unit from going in a 33-spline carrier. Of course Powertrax looked into the possibility and would have capitalized on it if they could...

that makes sense from a business stantpoint, why would you purposefully limit your market? im sure they looked into the idea of it being used for both spline counts but like brent said it didnt work

Yeah, I talked to powertrax and Randy's ring and pinion back and forth yesterday. They said some thing like the teeth of the lockrite wearing out, if used it for a 33 spline axle. I also called Detroit, tractech, they told me they had some thing for a 33 spline H233B, but they discontinued it due to lack of customers, no plan to revive it. So I asked them if they could make me one, or may be US as a group we get enough people to order. But he didn't reply to that. So I am assuming that ain't happening. I was going to suggest that we gather up a group of people and have a vendor to build one of the detroit locker for us. Otherwise, my last resort is to replce my rear axle with a shaved D60, yeah it's an overkill I know. That will kill many birds for me, but I was hoping to stick to the original H233B axle, at the same time help resolve our rear locker issue.

I'd call the BS flag on this one. The teeth could only wear out, if there was some serious power going to the rear axle, which there isn't in a Nissan.

I'm betting they never tried it out on a 33 spline rear, because the market wasn't there for the 31 spline, and they didn't want to spend any money on testing it w/ the 33 spline, just in case. I mean, lets be honest, compared to how many lockrights they sell for, say, a Dana 35 or 44, Chrysler 8.25, Toyota 8", etc., the Nissan market couldn't compete. Maybe it could, now, but they don't seem to even want to try.

Somebody needs to buy a lockright, stuff it into a 33 spline open carrier, and see what's what...

There has never been, by anyone, a locker for the 33 spline.

Except ARB.

Meh.

So somebody PLEASE get a traction device for our H233B rear-ends besides the stock LSD or ARB...like A-Rod said....just like him...I'll throw it in my H233B rear-end and we'll see what happens!!! [Anything besides the ARB...which isn't bad at all...just very "$$$$" consuming) I would like...VERY MUCH to have some sort of locker in my rear-end (H233B)] EVEN a lunchbox locker!!!!! Later....
