What the heck is Matic-d? That's what the manual says for the Auto tranny. The only stuff I found that said matic-d was some multi-vehicle Castrol ATF.

I have 2000 xterra with 70K and I want to do a simple drain and refill but I don't know what to buy. I guess it also says Dextron/MecronIII can be used. So maybe the MATIC-D isn't so important or is that Nissans name for the D/M ATF?

I was not going to use synthetic cause I'm just going to drain and re-fill but I will if I have to. The multi vehicle stuff I found is a synthetic blend which many say is a waste.

I think I'm going to do the drain and refill thing twice and try to get as much out as possible...drain re-fill then drive around and drain and re-fill again. I didn't want to use synthetic because this tranny has 70k on it and I've run into problems changing from dino to synthetic in high mileage engines and figured this would be the same.

Not sure what showing me where to find the specs will help, I have an owners manual. Razz smiley6 Nothing in that thread about MATIC-D. Big Grin

I have read many post on XOC and XF and everyone seems to have an opinion about what to run...Im not doing the flush. I have no idea whats been done to this truck I've only had it a few months so flushing it scares me. Im just going to drain and fill it twice on saturday and I think Ill use the Castrol multi-vehicle Matic-d stuff.

PDF ABOUT CASTROL MULTI_VEHICLE

The synthetic blend might be a waste but Ill only let it go 20k or so after tommrow, before I drain and refill again.

The service guy (not service writer but mechanic) at the dealer says he has had good luck/likes the Mercon V which is Matic-D compatible. Seems the Dex/Mer is close enough but this new stuff is closer still.

Im pretty sure if I drain/fill every 20k or so and dont over heat the sucker, and it hasnt been already abused before I bought it Wink whatever I use (within reason) Ill be fine. Smile

Now if I could just get my wife to give up the keys... Bawl
