My owners manual doesn't give a quart capacity, just says to check the dipstick. Anyone know how much oil to use? Thanks

My 89 pathy held 7qts empty. I put about 5 in when I changed the fluid. Buy 6-7 qts. Should give you plenty with some extra left over.
Are you just changing the fluid or doing a tranny flush? 1995 KC XE-V6 4x4. |

No flush, just drain and change.

I just did this friday night, and I was able to get just over 4 quarts out without lifting or tilting the x. I pored the fluid into a milk jug to measure so I could put in the same amount that came out.
IIRC the same amount came out last time it was done also. Nissan list the Xterra as taking 3and 1/8 quarts w/o the filter and 3 and 3/4 quart with the filter. The nissan dealer i go to puts 3.5

He's talking the ATF capacity, not engine oil. Total system capacity is 9 quarts or so. Raising the right front wheel a few inches will allow you to drain 5 quarts. ----------------------------------- When did you last check your spare tire's pressure? |

Yes ATF...So if I drain it on flat ground, I'm not really emptying the whole trans? I'm confused.

No, not all will drain, as the torque converter will hold on to some.

OK, so can we get a consensus on approximately how much to add or should I just wing it with the dip stick?

Pour what you drained off into a graduated bucket( volume "hash marks" inside). I've seen many like this at hardware store for cheap. ..................... "Climate change is no longer science.
