noise that I hear in my X. Normally I would have DR deal with it, but seeing how he's awol right now - I'm hoping someone knows.

Ok, I'm in the X, right. Big Grin

I have the a/c on #1 fan setting. After it gets cool, I then push the recirc button. I hear this god awful noise that sounds like the recirc fan needs lube. Then, when I push the recirc button again shutting the recirc off, after the fan stops turning I hear it again. It lasts like 3 seconds or so. It doesn't happen in the car or the truck, just the X.

I gotta take it in for the recall work, so I spose I could have them look at this too since I'm sure it's warrantied, but what the heck is it?

It sounds like a belt is slipping to me. Isn't the x still under warranty?

Yeah, it is. Just thought it was strange. I won't have time to get it in the dealership until after the 4th holiday. Do you think it'll hurt it if I still run it? I don't wanna make it worse.

It won't get any worse that quick, and if it does it's just more for them to fix.

Wish mine was still under warranty.

Sounds like the louver is closing on the air intake to cut off the outside air. I heard it a couple of times in the Frontier, probably because I don't use Recirc at all.

Thanks everyone. I'll wait til DR gets back in town saturday and have him listen to it. Then he can decide if it's something he wants to fix & deal with or if we'll just let the dealer deal with it.

Most certainly it's just the flap that controls the fresh/recirc airflow, it's controlled by a small motor. BoarderPhreak likens the sound his makes to a fart. Mine sounds like a slightly noisy electric motor.

Big Grin Yep, that's it - sounded like a whoopie cushion now that you say that.

Ok, so it's not anything that needs to be fixed? I'll just turn up the stereo more. Wink

Yeah, i was gonna say the flap.. Some of my cars have had vacuum controled flaps in them, and they made that same noise.

On my truck.. i put it on Vent when i first get in.. to push the hot air out.. then switch over to recirc once the A/C starts cooling.

I had to turn the A/C off today.. even tho it was 107 or so outside.. My A/C will freeze you! Big Grin

Now here's the B@#$% Desert Lady. It does sound like a recirc door motor and it probably should be fixed if it is overly loud or not operating properly. But in most vehicles to do that the dash must be removed. Bawl This can induce some new squeaks and rattles as each time the dash is removed, it tends to move and inevitably the reinstaller may miss a screw or something. I would let the dealer look at it while you are getting other stuff done and then make the decision once you know what it is and what they will have to do to fix it.
