Saw a nice Frontier with a roll bar, it was red too.

I guess I'll hold out until DR buys me a ARB locker.

I have rear end knowledge but it is specific to the female only and it varies by model type.

Um, why does the R&P need to be set up again? Nothing has changed that would affect their engagement. This should be a DIY job for anyone with common tools and skill.

Part numbers:
38443-C6004 is the 1.4 mm thick disc
38443-C6002 is the 1.5 mm thick disc
38443-C6003 is the 1.6 mm thick disc

I'd like to know exactly which thickness TK and Weelit used. If they used a 1.5 or a 1.6, it might be a little less spool-like with a 1.4. If they used 1.4 already, well, I guess we'll just have to live with it.

At least for 2000 models, there are 5 friction discs, 6 friction plates, and 2 spring plates per side. I've heard rumor that the 02 and/or 03 Xterras have more discs but are likely built with thinner ones so the overall pack thickness/tension is somewhat higher than before. I have nothing to back this up.

The ESM notes the following:
Always position a friction plate first on rear of side gear.

Just remember I was muttering about this mod LONG ago, just didn't get around to being the first to do it.

A lot of people have discussed this mod in the past. They were actually the first to DO it though. We've been talking about the Mexican LSD's for some time and the fact they just have more friction discs in them.

Anytime you pull your carrier out it's a good idea to check backlash upon reassembly.

Guess I'll at least put some pattern marking stuff on the ring gear and make sure it looks good, and if not I'll get into it more.

I just took my LSD apart yesterday and it seems like CAKE to add a new friction disk.

I will just wait for the info and start my swap ASAP: which thickness? and where do you insert the new disc (position)?

Go back through and read the other messages. You'll add a friction disk on each end and remove the retainers....it's explained better in other posts. The part numbers you need are also listed.

Anyone get this figured out yet? Which disc?
It sounds like the LSD differs from yr. to yr., so my 2002 might be different.
I guess the 1.5mm would be a start..

Yup, the 2000-1’s have 10 discs and you can any of the three thickness 1.4 to 1.6 IMO although a Nissan tech advised me to go with 1.4 or 1.5 since he said it would most likely wear the stack quickly and my tires also.

>=2002 has 12 discs and I only think a extra pair of 1.4’s might fix since its pretty tight.

I actually had all 1.4's in my 2000 and two of the 1.4’s were worn down past the tolerance but I keep them anyway and added a pair of new 1.5’s.

Going to see how it does the next month or so and may go back & add another set or replace the worn ones with 1.5's if I don't think the lockup is enough although I did set the pressure about 20% higher than before.
