Question for you Xterra guys. I have been a long time Jeep wheeler, but am recently looking for a new vehicle. I am looking into an Xterra to build up. I have always loved the look of the X, but the IFS turned me off. Well, the X is back in my mind again, and was hoping to get some actual info on wheeling with an IFS. How hard-core can it be? Have done some research, and if I get an X, have been considering an SAS swap. It would most likely be around a year before I could do it, but don't want to miss any wheeling this spring with my Jeep friends. Can an X with; lets say 3" lift (if I could fit 33's) be fairly capable until more extreme work was done. I have never had a vehicle with IFS so I am hoping someone could shed some light. Thanks for your help in advance,

I like my '02. It has kept up reasonably well with a 3" lift. Its almost five now and I've just worn out the clutch. Then newer automatics with the factory lockers are pretty capable right off the lot.

honestly it'll hang with, if not out-do most jeep with only 33s or less on them, other than on front articulation... mud, hills, sand, ect they're great

My '04 is very capable and probably the best SUV I've ever owned.

I was one of the first to buy one in '99 and the first to wheel the snot out of it IFS and now with the SAS.
I tell you what I've had a ton of fun in that truck. There are things out there with cheaper parts etc, but I wouldn't trade mine now for anything out there. My .02. Meh. |
