Just ordered the Mean Green Alternator. My bearings are making crazy noise.

Wondering if I HAVE to get a yellow top now?

Yellow top would be nice. If you find yourself running your battery down a lot, the yellow top would work very well for you. Mine has been great for my winch.

But do I HAVE to get a new battery? The one I have now is fine, and I was planning on throwing the old Alt in my spare parts bag....

No, there's no reason to get a new battery.

You will be happy with that alternator.

As Andy and Datz said, you don't have to replace the battery.

I would however suggest that you run a bigger cable from the alternator to the battery(positive side) since you will be pushing more current.

I just got a new bearing for my alternator. It was $11 from a bearing shop.

($11 Canadian, so I got 2 spare ones)

I wasn't gonna toss it, I was gonna put it in my spare parts bag. Which is so heavy now I can hardly lift that sucker.

What is "stock step rails?"

Mean Green now has an application for the D21/WD21 VG30E.

I checked the website, but MG still only lists the Frontier/Xs. What is the part number for the WD21 alternator?

Stock step rails.

I'm taking a poll if I should take them off.

I'm afraid if I do I'll scratch my paint at the mall.

Shoot! I can't find the email with the D21/WD21 VG30E Mean Green part number.

Best to call them up and get the part number.

I'm sorry, but if you get the part number, please post it here.

Just a side note. The guy I spoke to at Mean Green apparently doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.

He said at idle, the alternator can put out 100Amps.

I find that inaccurate.
