Hey, I've got a 97 Pathfinder (well it's girlfriend's, but i get more use out of it) and the power antenna is stuck in the 'down' position. So, thinking it's broken I manually extended it, and everything was great until I turned off the car and it retracted again. So now I'm guessing that the antenna isn't broken, but rather maybe the sensor is bad?
The stereo itself is sort of shady too. It's the stock single CD stereo, but the volume control knob sometimes turns the volume down when you turn it up, and vice versa. Also the display gets very dim sometimes (oddly enough, if you press in the on\off\volume knob hard enough it gets bright again).
So I'm guessing that the radio has some loose connections, and maybe that is affecting the antenna. I wanted to check\replace the power antenna, but it seems that you have to take off a whole panel to get in there. Is there maybe a fuse that I can pull so the radio still works, but the antenna is left permanently up?
Using my extensive knowledge of electronics (major shade tree), it sounds like you have a loose connection between the power antenna and acc wire. With the stereo dimming, the factory amp may be going bad, or again a loose wire. The only way you can check for that is to pull everything apart. It isn't that hard really, just a few screws and clips. The fuses will still be good if the radio turns on. It may be time for a new radio if the things above dont solve your problems. More than likely it sounds like your radio is going bad though. Just my unprofessional advice.
