Let me guess.. this topic has been pounded to death..

Anyway... I know about the ones on 4x4parts.com for $500+ @ 160AMP and the option of getting one rewound here in Phoenix (Not interested in this option)...

I found a 165AMP for $299 from Alterstart http://www.4alterstart.com/

And am waiting to hear back on a 200AMP from http://www.excessiveamperage.com/

Does anyone have any suggestion where to buy a HO ALT?

Thanks..

I "threw on" a DElco 17SI double wound- supposed to be 180 amp out, but belt slip limits that. I don't like that belt too tight. I always picture the front crank seal starting to leak.

It's been running fine for a couple years now.

I had to mod the mounting bracket in a serious way.

I recommend getting one that fits- unless you want to fab.

I wouldn't do it again.

Waht about a 110A Maxima/Quest alt? Isn't that just a pulley change?

I have a 110 amp Quest alt in my 95 Pathy... There are write ups for the install in different places 4x4parts.com has one in their board in the "How to" area, I can't remember if there is one here or not.

Best way to go about it is get the alt, then try fit it and see what you need to do. I'm using a shortened stock adjuster plate and just bolted it up (with Offroad X's help) The washer for the bolt on the adjuster side juuuuust touches the belt (Its using a stockpower steering belt BTW...the stock Alt belt is on the PS pump now Big Grin ) and is making a leetle groove in it. Its been like 9 months w/out a problem and I have brighter brights!

Got any PICs of it? How much did it cost?

Looks like the 17SI is about 100AMP Alt, did you have it reworked or buy it that way?
