Nice!

Reason I started this topic was to see what everybody has in their Nissan's. Also, it was started to get a lil bit of help on my newly acquired CB Radio system.

Here is what I have to work with:
1994 China-built Cobra 25LTD Classic. Im assuming it was made before the rumored "downfall of Cobra" since the mic is on the user's left of the case and is built like the Cobra's that were made in America. I got the CB at a salvage yard for free, due to the fact neither me nor the owner of the Salvage yard knew if it actually worked. I hooked it up to my Chevy S-10, and sure enough, it powered up. I didnt bother to turn up the volume or anything, so Im assuming it works.

76" Wilson 1000 whip-style antenna. My grandpa had it sitting in his toolshed along with like 15ft of coax.

What kind of range do you think I will get with this setup? 50 miles would be the most I would ever want.

It depends on how flat the land is where you're at. The radio/CB combination is good though. I had a Wilson Lil Wil and it was great. I now have a 102" metal whip which picks up people from farther away. I don't know how the tx changed between the two.

Just make sure you ground that 1000 good and you'll be happy. 50 miles might be pushing it though. It really depends on where on the truck you mount it, and which direction the other guy is.

Well, I plan on mounting it to this piece of angle iron a previous owner attatched to my Patrol. Its on the back-top-drivers side corner of the tub. So, it would be running right alongside of the hard top. It will stick a good 2-3' over the top of the roof.

I know my reception might not be as good when Im in trees, or anything. 50 is prolly more than I will really find a use for, but its something to shoot for. Most of the time, the person Im talking to will be under 5 miles from me.

My normal range is probably less that 5, and I have a 25 watt CB...which isn't legal. But if I'm heading down the big, flat, straight interstate, I can talk for a long long way.

BTW, don't run the radio without having the antenna hooked up and grounded. It will mess things up.

And don't take apart the radio and fiddle with it...I think that's how my last one blew up Wink

the willson should talk pretty good with that cobra. If there are any problem with it you can find some good fixes on the web, even wiring pattens if you need them. or e-mail me and I am sure I have a file or two on it. BTW is that wilson a roof, or trunk mount?

Here is a pic of where I will be mounting it to:
Will it hurt anything if the antenna touches my hard top? Should I anchor it to my hard top when its on?

Robert- My Grandmother says that it used to have a magnet on it, but my Grandfather removed it and attatched the mount thats currently on it. Its 76" long, and rather thin. 1/8" at the very bottom. Quite a coincidence, my Grandfather's name was Robert also... heh

I have a Uniden PC78LTW, and a Wilson 1000 magmount, with a 60" whip. I get 7-10 miles of reception, and similar broadcast range on flat ground, and rolling hills (never been in the mountains to try it), and thats with the stock 8W output. It certainly wasn't the cheapest setup, but i'll probably still own it, and be using it, in 2020, so I figured it was worth the money.

ok I know what he did he took a magnet and gutted it so now it is a roof mount, I have done that myself, it is ok to if the mount touches but if the whip is going to touch go get a bouncy ball to put where it will touch. As for where to mount the more metal the better. I had the plesure of moving a top a few weeks ago and that will work if you want to mount it there. And the legal output is 4 watts, but as long as you don't abuse it you can run all that you want. If someone ever gets my console done(greg), my radio would be 4 watts and flip my switch and I have 225 watts.

Thing is, I will have my top off for as long as I possibly can, so I will probably mount it to that angle iron. Even if I have to ground it to several spots on the frame. So I can expect 10 miles at the most... hmm... oh well, that will work! It was free, who am I to complain!? Razz
