I don't know anybody with any CB radio setup that could get 50 miles of reception if they wanted to. I'd say 10 max and that is flat ground, no interferance and a stroke of good luck. Wilson 1k are great bottom loaded antennas...I was using a old K40 before AZ Run 3 destroyed it, now I just use a Firestick II since most of my CBing is LOS (Line Of Sight). Make sure you get a SWR meter on your antenna before transmitting with it.

Well, my Grandpa had ALOT of CB buddies... Hell, he even had a CB Radio club. If it werent for my Grandma b1+chin about the scanner running all the time, he would have still had most of his CB Radio equipment around when he died. I prolly would have inherited it. I still keep in touch with 2 of his CB Radio buddies. My uncle bought a good majority of my Grandpa's equipment, so I dont believe I will have any trouble getting somebody to tune it for me.

10 Miles will prolly suit me just fine.

And now, back to the topis...
You can get 50-55 watts out of a Cobra 25 LTD classic. Just take it to a good radio shop ...one truckers use, get your coax there too and once you're installed have his antenna guy run your swr. Mint topped 50 on a byrd meter. Thats about as much as your gonna get out of such a little radio.

A galaxy now....I've heard of those topping 150 out of the box.

Piscator,
We deal in lead, friend.

50-55 watts is pushing it. The average peaked 25 runs the mid to high 20's. Best thing to do if your looking for distance would be to leave your radio stock and run a linear. They usually run about a dollar a watt, but 80 bucks for 80 watts is a steal compared to what you'd pay to have your radio peaked and tuned for 20-25 extra watts. Plus you can turn it off when you don't need it.

Galaxy radios smiley27

I saw a Galaxy Saturn(I believe) base setup at a West Memphis CB shop. It was seriously bad. Uppers, Lowers, AM, FM and every possible toy you could think of. Someone ordered it and they had it sitting on the counter waiting for him to come and pick it up. A friend and I drooled on it for about ten min.

Some food for thought:
Cobra and Uniden are the same radio. They both use the same board. Uniden uses some smaller components, but other than that, they are identical.

50 watts out of a 19? Damn!!!!
That's a hell of a tune up. Where did you get it peaked at or did you do it yourself?
I'm running a 29 Classic with a K40 mag. I tuned it back down around 5 so I could put it through my 150 watt linear. I put in a Conex echo board not too long ago. It's a cool little toy.

I ended up putting it in my Chevrolet since the Nissan wasnt running at the time. Plus, the 25 LTD Classic is just too big for my Patrol. A friend bought one of those cheap-o Wal-Mart specials. Pretty compact, and it looks like it would fit in the glovebox on my Patrol.
