Take it to a truck stop CB shop and have them look at it. They usually do work right on the spot, if its trashed they'll probably have some used ones that have been "peaked and tuned" (IE they put out...unlike that other gender we have to deal with) You can get about 50watts out of a 25LTD Classic and a 4' Wilson antenna.

Piscator,

I got rid of my big metal whip and bought a 4' Firestik from an X owner...and I can't remember his name. Oh well.

I couldn't get it to tune at first. I ended up cutting off about 25' of wire off the top of it(not that much...) and it's now working. All of a subben, the meter says I'm only putting out 35ish watts. That kinda sucks. And incoming talk is now slightly more static-y. That sucks too. Oh well.

Mr. Will

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Been running a Uniden PRO538w with a no-name magnetic mount base load antenna, borrowed from a friend, on the roof of my CC.

Just bought a peaked 'n tuned Uniden PC68LTW, with a Wilson 500 antenna. This is probably overkill for slinky group trips, but what the heck. Would be curious to see how the two different setups compare on my truck.

Regards,

-matt

it's not overkill, I went out and bought a PC78LTw and a Wilson 1000 antenna. I thought that was a bare minimum to be useful =)

<sigh>

Once again, I feel suddenly inadequate.

On the other hand, at least I'm not the only one over-compensating!
