Does anyone know how to convert a 1HP AC motor to run off of DC power without the use of an inverter?

You already have this motor? Whether you can run it on DC is going to depend on what kind of motor it is. There are 'universal' motors that can run on AC or DC. You might be lucky. Other kinds of AC motors push the rotor around with a rotating magnetic field caused by the alternating current flowing in the outer windings and for that type I'm pretty sure you'd need an inverter.

That's what I am learning. Yes I have the motor already, I'm learning about the difference in motors and tomorow I will take it apart and see for myself.

if it has brushes you can use it on dc voltage. if its an induction motor you cant without a inverter.

Yup, if it's an induction motor A/C only. An induction motor will be heavy for 1 hp and quiet when running. A brushed motor will be loud and light.
