Hi, my first time to post on the site, hoping someone can help and hope this is posted in the right thread...

Around 2 months ago my 2002 Nissan Navara D22 started misbehaving. It seems like the engine is being starved of fuel but only in 4th gear. If it were a petrol engine I'd say it was misfiring, but, as it's diesel I can only assume that it's fuel starvation. It is reluctant to pick up speed and is jerky.

The problem is not related to engine speed and is absent from all other gears. In 5th the van drives quite smoothly.

I'm assuming that there's a sensor somewhere which tells the ECU when the van is in 4th gear. I further assume that either the sensor or the ECU is faulty. Anyone here able to cast any light on this?

Thanks in anticipation

There is a throttle position sensor. There's probably also a fuel filter. Has it been replaced lately?

Hi Desert Rat,

The fuel filter was changed at the last service but I can't see why either of these sensors would be tied to 4th gear only?
