I was looking for a compressor for the truck so I can run air to my lockers, power tools, and air up tires...

I was thinking about using this compressor and a 5 gallon tank mounted under the bed of the truck.

Do you guys think that compressor will be adequate for what I am wanting to do?

I can get this compressor on ebay for around 150 bux. It is recommended for air suspension systems, and off road, so I think it would be good... But what do I know? Wink

It would work well for tires, but it might not be enough for tools.

What do air tools usually run on? You don't think that compressor and an air tank would be enough?

Air tools vary greatly in their CFM requirements, even among the same type. I was going to buy a 1/2" drill at Harbor Freight until I found out it required something like 14CFM, much more than my compressor is capable of. Check out the CFM requirements for the type of tools you want to use and compare the cheap tools to the higher quality ones. Keep in mind that some tools will only be used briefly (impact wrenches) while others might be used for much longer (grinders, cut-off wheels).

Yeah, the only air tools that I would like to have on the trail would be an impact (change tires faster), and maybe an air hammer (to seperate ball joints, etc). Air socket wrenches would be nice, but not required...

I will see if I can find a higher CFM compressor.

How about using the Extreme Aire?

That one is a larger compressor than any of the Viair ones.

That pump wil work but only for a short time, even with the reserve tank, probably wouldnt be able to run a impact driver long enough to change a tire, I have heard of people using A/C pumps for crompessors. Another thing to think about, will your alternator supply enough amperage to run that and anything else at the same time??

Have you thought about using a CO2 tank. I have one right now that I am into about 150 bux runs my impact wrench just fine and it will be good for large amounts of air for tires. It might be kind'ev a pain for lockers though unless you don't mind having to open the valve every time you want to engage them.
