back in july i was installing the body lift on my truck, my girlfriend wanted to help so i said here put the battery back in, while tightening the harness her little wrench hit the positive and the battery harness (ground) and sparked a bunch, made the wrench too hot too touch, anyways thats all background info - the battery still started the truck but every once in a while, 4 times a month or so when i go to start the truck it acts like a dead battery, the clicking and such - but the accesories all work, the battery is not dead, i wait a little bit and i may do it again but sooner or later it will start up like it was fine. the strange thing is when it acts dead the windshield wipers will run (without my activation) and it seems like all the electrical systems are firing at the same time, except the starter/ignition.

so what do you guys think is wrong? i dont know if the whole battery incident has any play with this problem but it has been happening since then...

I'd remove the batt clamps and clean them and the posts, reinstall, and pray to the batery gods that you don't get stranded. Shorting out a battery is the best way to age it into the grave. How long was it shorted?

My Pathy is doing the same thing right now. I belive its the starter. At the same time though, I think I have a short in my column for the wipers, they work sometimes, sometimes just the rear, sometimes just the front, other times nothing.

But back to the starting problem, it sounds like the same problem as me. I think its the starter, but I don't know if its the solinoid or the motor sticking. It clicks like when I turn the key, and I think that is the solinoid clicking, but the motor won't turn, so I think that is the starter sticking. After a few 'clicks' it will start.

I seem to remember that changing a 3.0 starter was a big PITA. Am I right?

If the battery was shorted for 3-5 seconds I would replace the battery- unless you want to be stranded somewhere w/ a dead cell.
If you got an Exide orbital or Optima type
( and a batt box to store it in) you could charge it up and then have it onboard incase you ever needed to swap out your shorted one. They stay charged forever.

I too am having the same problem. After a couple clicks, It starts right up. It only happens every once in a while though. I am curious to figure it out. Anyone have any thoughts?

I think I'm going to try to 'hot shot' it and see if I can't stick a Ford solenoid on the firewall or something.

its not that nissans are bad, at least thier better than a domestic, its jsut that it freezes due to heat mostly and too much friction...i would get one from kragen or the equivelent for 125 and get a lifetime warantty on it...

So im having the same click click problem when trying to turn it over. Its very spratic, well i should say was sporatic, because now it will not turn over. The clicking is actually coming from the Relay behind the battery. I replaced the relay after i went to the dealer and asked some questions. He told me that the starter solenoid never goes bad on Nissans, and that they were discontinued... i looked at him sideways, but non the less i took his work and replaced the relay like he said. The weird this is that the starter would flake for about 3 months then it would be constant for a week, then work fine for a couple more months. Anyone else have this problem?
