I got to step out of work for a few minutes today and went to a nearby pawnshop which sells guns. Didn't seen any guns BUT they do have an older Craftsman welder, 250amp ac/dc welder there. It does not have any cables and the connectord on it are the round hole kind of plugs. Are there cables that can work with that still around? Can I fab something up?

This thing is only $99 and assuming it works (prolly does) its a steal.

If it's a stick welder than any stranded welding cable will work, go with 2ga and about 50ft each.
If you cannot find a plug for the front it's easy enough to open the box up and buy some other connectors that will work. Those older welders are just transformers with a big rectifer bridge for the dc portion. I have an OLD OLD OLD craftsman (it says sear and robuck CO. on it) stick welder that works fine. Mine is only an AC rig, but if that thing is AC/DC buy it.

DIcker it down a bit..

CAbles will run a buck a foot from a supply store, not to mention cost of ground clamp, electrode holder and jacks to plug in.

If you went out and purchased all at a welding supply , etc., you could easliy drop another $140 .

smiley34That's been my experience anyway.

You could easily spend $75-$100 on a stinger, ground clamp, lead conectors and lead cables new.
I would try and talk them down to around $75 and mention to them that you have to stick another $100 into it.
Usually you can get these welders for around $150 with everything, check your local paper or E-bay.

Ebay isn't much of an option since shipping is killer on these heavy beasts. I do check the paper from time to time, not much available around here (wash/balto MD.) Thus the pawn shop visits. I have a harbor freight stinger and ground clamp which can be adapted to do the job, I just need to score the proper plugs (or open it up and adapt, improvise and overcome Smile
