NO way could you put that switch in-line w/ the main power source to the winch-it's only 20 amp rating. It might be ok to control power to a relay that is doing duty to turnon yourwinch..

Waht's a matta w/ your winch? Why no control switch to power it on/off?.

What if you stick the switch between the wire(s) going to the solenoid(s)?

Sorry to postjack...my winch died last night, so where can I get two huge relays to replace the solenoids?

Maybe I can order new solenoids...

pretty much the only thing commonly available to handle the load would be a ford started solenoid

I dont think he means between the winch and the battery.

That switch is fine. You just want it to kill the remote right? I already bought one similar to do the same.

Similar to in cab controls. I am making one of those.

I would suggest you talk to Darrin at www.12voltguy.com he has everything you need for an in cab switch, I love mine, it is the guarded toggle type with a red light, and a seperate toggle for in or out. At least check out his site for some ideas if'n you want to make your own. Smokin

Roadless Gear also has a nice setup for ONLY $30!!! AND that includes EVERYTHING, so it's much cheaper, but does the same thing. You can find that one HERE The only difference is that the RG In cab Winch control panel is 2"x3", whereas the 12voltguy.com one is available in a smaller package at ONLY 1.5"x2". That's what I like about 12voltguy's, but for the price difference I just might try to make the RG one work somewhere in my cab. Hope this helps. Later...

I have seen the RG and 12voltguy kits. Both are very nice. But I am building a custom center console and already have some momentary switchs (from my old Dune buggy). I want to incorporate into the console with all the other switches. Rock lights, driving lights, Fender lights, reverse lights etc.

Post some pix of that new bumper!

I just recently added a kill-switch in-line on my main wire feed to my winch this weekend. I haven't uploaded any pics though. I got the switch as (I hate to admit it) O-Reily's (I hate that place) and it was made for 4ga. wire and heavy loads such as a winch. The swith and a 12" wire lead (4ga.) was about $20. It works great and there is a little red key/switch that controls the switch. I keep it under the hood and it works great.

I have a set of heavy duty battery quick connects such as this:

That way there is NO WAY somebody could mess with my winch, and I also have a set of 1 gauge jumper cables that are 25' long with one of those connectors on.

Those are good, lots of applications for those. I have a Hella cut of switch that is keyed, just turn the key off, and nobody can use the rig, it is hidden too. I got it from the 12volt guy.

I have the disconnects too (from Superwinch), and just saw the other day, a set of jumper cables which utilize the snap-on connection. The clamp ends go to the other vehicles battery like normal, pretty cool. On my list now..

Yep... I just crimped on my ends on a set of jumper cables. Being 25' long and 1AWG they will also be an extension to my winch cables, when I do my rear bumper with an integrated hitch. My friend already has that setup in action and it works beautifully as we both have winches on cradles with 2" front receivers. Being able to winch off the back is fantastic on trails especially if you run solo.

there are some people turning gasonline vehicles into electrical vehicles. They regularly use relays that can handle 800 amps or more. A relay of this type could be put inline, but they are not cheap.
