Exactly. I realize that the ground might not be needed. I just always approach everything w/ a mind towards failure( trying to avoid it, that is). This usually drags a project out 5 times longer than it should take.

That reminds me of a funny (unrelated) story. I was in a doctor's waiting room one time. There was a large framed poster on the wall that caught my eye. It had a piture of a Ford model T in a ditch. Ignoring the people in the other seats around me I started reading the text that went along with it. The title was, of coarse, MURPHY'S LAW. As I started reading I was laughing on the inside. As my reading progressed, I began to chuckle audibly. When I read the one: "A dropped socket will roll to the exact center under an automobile.", I was downright laughing.
When I realized I was laughing out load, I looked around to see if I was disturbing anyone. Some poor teenage girl, with her leg in a cast, was also waiting.....directly under the poster. I could tell from her expression of embarrassment that she thought I was looking at her and lauging. She was very relieved when I explained that I was laughing at the poster mounted on the wall just above her head. Sitting right below the poster, she didn't know it was there. lol

(I guess you had to be there. Roll Eyes)

It's a fine line between clever and stupid.

I think it'd be wise for you to run soem romex or other wire down to the frame. I used to have a Wilson antenna mounted to my tire carrier and It didn't work well untill I frounded it to the frame.

Also with that aluminium mount, expect the bolts to rust quickly, if not the carrier itself as a result of galvonic reaction between the AL and Steel.

I'm going to just weld on a piece of angle iron for a mount when it gets warm out again. My old aluminium mount broke off driving down the highway. It couldn't handle the flex fromthe wind.
