Just finished a complete stereo install (deck, front component 5.25" speakers, and rear 5x7) on my 95 pathy. Man, it was a PITA. Had to drop the rear speaker plate from the roof to grind it for the new speakers, which made it neccesary to drop the headliner. For the fronts I ordered some brackets from crutchfield for the 5x7 hole that allowed mounting of a 4" speaker. I enlarged the hole to fit and then dynamatted the adapter and stock mounting adapter. It turned out really nice. I mounted the tweeters in the pillar, up by the roof line. I tried to put them in the stock location, but they were to big. The wiring was the biggest headache. I spliced into the wiring at the stock amp locations, and mounted the crossovers for the front speakers there. Ill get pics in a minute or two.

My next mod just ended on ebay. I bought a new in box cobra 29. Just have to go to a cb shop to get an antenna and cable, install it, then have them tune the swr, and peak and tune the cb. Any recommendations for cb shops?

Now you've got me reminiscing about linear amplifiers and extra channels. Those were the days. smiley34

I tried to go by CB Exchange sat afternoon, but they were already closed.

Its a 29 ltd classic. I dont think Ill be performing those as this is my first cb, and if I buy another cheaper one, Ill experiment on that one.

Im pretty sure Im gonna go with a firestik 4'. And I want to mount it to the rear bumper, Ill know more once I talk to the "experts". How should I mount it? I was thinking about just using one of the mounts where you drill a hole and bolt in the mount.

That should work, Firestiks are good antennas. But when choosing a height remembers that your transmission point is in the middle of the antenna. So if possible you want that point to be at or above your vehicle. But if you are lower then it will lessen you brodcating ability. And you don’t have to go that far when 4 wheeling in a group, but there are times it helps. Also I have a meter if they want to much to check your swr. Last time I had it done it was $5.

So I could always use like an antenna mount and mount it on the spare tire carrier or something. I just dont like the idea of it sticking up too far. And a whip is not an option.

And thanks for the offer on the meter. Ill know more on monday when I go down and talk to them. Maybe I can get a package discount since we will be getting a setup for my brothers rig too. Hes running a 85 blazer, building the engine right now. 350, 4 speed, lifted, 35s (he makes it look easy to run big tires) and a cobra 19 dx 3. Probably going for the same setup, he wants to do a mount on the tailgate.

if you can mount it off the side of the bumper, so you can see it from the front and that will help if you are tring not to go to high.

That makes sense. What would be the transmission downfalls of mounting it there vs mounting it on the tire carrier? Im not planning on doing any long distance cbing, but it would be nice not to build a limitation into the system.

Hey Robert can you bring the swr meter with you on the next run please? I just went from a non tunable 10' whip to this tunable fiberglass job and I wanna dial it in if possible for optimum reception.

Everything that Ive read says that the 29 has a built in swr meter. Can I use that to tune the antenna? Or should I use a separate meter?

Ok, if you think about this, antanna transmision is based off of line of site. So less in the way farther it transmits. Yes you can us the one on the cb. the number it gives you will be off but it can help you get a better SWR. the Best to test SWR it with a meter, but just try to get the neddle to the 1 (or close as posable) and that should be fine. As for where you mount it, it all depends on the ground it has. Steal/sheet metal is the best, sometimes the weird mounting as a tire carrier verus the bumper is better, all depends on vehicle. I took a look at pics of John's rig and it should be ok to mount there. if there is a ground problem, you can always put a peace of steal braid for a better ground. yes TF&J, I can bring the meter with me the next time I am out, usaly have it on me. And then is a whip non tuneable???? Nevermind I remember.

As for the mods are easy to do and always remember the repairs part it could help alot.
