. Starting a new project I have been thinking about for a while. I was looking at the tantrem led lights. But at over a hundred dollars for the set, no.
Well, while looking for some parts to make my own led tail lights, I found the rock lights I have been looking for. They are 9 led lights (3 AAA). They come in a 2-pack for $3.88 at Pep Boys. With the housing cut down to 1/2" and an inch in diameter, they can be mounted almost anywhere. I can mount 14 for less than $30 Big Grin
I'm thinking I can use a cigarette adapter with the right voltage. Does anybody have any insight on this type of thing? Things to do or not to do?

Running 3 of those lights in series( not parallel) ought to get you the right V-drop per light if your charging system is good.

it's 4.5 volts per light X3 lights- that's 13.5 volts .

Are they bright?

INSIGHT;this is how I would do it. (did it for a coustom dash leds)
google "LED Resitor Calculator" you should get several calculators that tell you what resitor to put on the + side b4 the LED to run off car battery (call it 13.5v to be safe).
since each light uses 3 AAA in series (1.5v x 3= 4.5) just put 4.5 in as your LED voltage and 13.5 as your input voltage and 20mA for current. Use the rated resitor on b4 each ligth on the + side and wire them all in parallel so if 1 gets bonked the others still work.
make sure the last ring on the resitor you buy is gold (%5 tolerance) for most accurate/relyable results

I have 6 1-watt LED's under my truck. They work pretty good but I paid $20 each for them. I was thinking of upgrading to something brighter, for about the same cost.

I was thinking about using 4 of these:

at $20 each, they already come in a nice durable case and are set up for 12 volts.

I keep one of them in my toolbox, they work great and come with a long cord. Great for night time breaks.
