I just picked up some 3v LEDs and some 1k ohm resistors.. for a grand total of $2. Should work ok. Smile

I was talking with a friend yesterday who has a S14 240SX with the dual cam KA, and his computer tells him all sorts of stuff. Stuff I'll never understand. SO that ECU might not be able to do something as simple as two blinking lights.

Maybe I'll see if he wants to post here about it...

In...

mode 1 - O2 sensor rich/ok/lean
mode 2 - air/fuel mix going in
mode 3 - stored trouble codes
mode 4 - TPS on/off, MAF something or another, and something else lol
mode 5 - real time trouble codes, doesn't store them in memory, just shows it when it happens

I'm doing this to my 95 HB and I'm not sure if I have it right or not. This is what I was thinking:
red LED goes across terminals 5 and 1
green LED goes across terminals 5 and 2
switch goes across terminals 4 and 11

Is this correct? I got this from Will's picture of how he installed his.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Yeah, that's it.

I've noticed a couple things since I did this. First, they don't work unless the motor is running. Second, once you crank the motor, it might not do anything til it's been running a couple minutes.

92PathSE,

I'm not sure how to do the private message stuff but I would be interested in the little black box for my truck. I'm getting tired of driving around without a passenger seat! PM me please.

Holy blinking lights Batman!

That's a cool mod. I seen this over on AC, but never got around to doing the install myself.

Seems straight forward and simple.

The Mini-Fit Jr. connector is used just so I can easily disconnect my lower dash panel when doing stuff under there. Mini Fit Jr. is a Molex connector, commonly found on Clifford alarms.

Otherwise, you can ignore the Mini Fit Jr. and just wire them straight, which I believe most people did.

Stuff I've learned since building the 1st one:

- It won't work when the engine isn't running.
- It won't work right after cranking either, so don't freak out.
- It won't work while moving, for safety I guess.
- Every time you crank the engine, the ECU will be in Mode 1.
- Once the engine has been running for a minute or so, hold the switch for about 5 seconds and both lights will blink twice, indicating Mode 2. Release switch. Repeat until you're in the mode you want.

It's just an easier way to check trouble codes and monitor the engine. The ECU is under the passenger seat and can be hard to reach, especially in a single cab truck.

On the back of the ECU there's a pair of lights and some kind of switch, depending on the model year. So unless you pull the seat out, there's no way to see the lights while driving. It's much easier to build this little box and check codes that way.

My ECU is in a waterproof box so there is no way I can get to it anyway.

Hmmm wonder if this will work on the newer systems, I still have a Nissan connector and can still look at the lights on the ECU/turn the screw to change modes or check codes.
