I figured Electronic Avenue was the best place because most of the trucks are computer controlled.
Could someone point me in the right direction for emission laws (US Federal)? When I go into get tested what do they look for on the OBDII? Are they just checking to see if it works, or are they checking the O2's or what? Where are the laws written down? Am I able to request a sniff test? ======================================= 1998 D22, 4x4, KA24DE, C200 (open), R180(open), 31x10.50 r15, King Cab, 5speed |

OBDII test just checks that the system works. they hook-up a scanner or like device and run a simulation agains your computer. The only time I have see\heard of falures are: a dash light is on, a dash light will not turn on, or the cumputer needs to be reset.

Well my OBDII is not interfacing with a scanner right now. How would I reset the computer? The thing is that I having no other problem with the truck.

On my '98 it's a plug and play test. All OBDII vehicles are this way - they don't run the sniff on them.
They do a test with the key on to ensure all the proper codes are displayed, and then with the truck at idle. I think you're allowed one error code, but not two. 1998 Frontier 4x4, 2002 Xterra 4x4, and Z28 street rocket Pass here and go on. You're on the road to heaven - Kerouac |

Just as an FYI for anyone in Texas: Texas is somewhat complicated with OBDII and if you pass or fail. If the light is on while the engine is running you fail. If more than two non-continous checks have not passed (this has nothing to do with the light) then you will fail. Most checks non-continous reset after 2 driving cycles.
I had this problem. The master plug going into the ECU was lose.
