I got some half decent Alpines to replace my dryrotting, mud covered front speakers the other day. I figgered I'd just pull the mesh screen...No such luck, Looking closer it *looks* like the plastic surround on the door panel should come off seperatly. Or do I have to take off the whole fawking panel? I really don't wanna pay $45 to have 'em installed.

Piscator,

If it's anything like our Sentra, I had to pull the whole panel. It's not that bad....a screw in the arm rest and pop clips around the door. Get the door panel pulling tool from any auto parts store for like $3 and pull it.

Yup, you do, just like Andy said. It really is not that bad. I threw some 5x7 Boston Acoustics in my front doors a few years back...

Rats! I tjust looks like it ought to be easier with that speaker bulge being a seperate piece and all. I know Brent just yanked his grills off when he cleaned some mud or replaced his (or something)

Do you have power windows/locks, or manual ones? If you have manual ones, the only pain in the butt is removing and replacing the window crank....they have what I call "jesus clips" holding them on....The name comes from this: You pop them loose, and the clip pops off and goes flying to some unknown far corner of your garage, and you say, "JESUS!" lol

lol

Get get yer favorite flathead and pop off the white things around the door. You'll have to take off the inner door handle and maybe some other small things on the inside, as well as the door lock thingy. It's not hard, just frustrating.

I'm about to do the same thing in a couple of days when my new Alpines come in. I have already popped the bottom of the panel off to see how hard its gonna be. I have a 95 with power windows and I'm not going to remove the whole panel, I'm just gonna pop it loose at the bottom and use a really short screwdriver.

Guys, if you've popped it loose, you did most of the work. Leave the wires hooked up.

I'd just remove the whole panel.. its not too hard.

From what I can remember about it (this may need to be corrected):

1. pop off door latch surround
2. carefully pry up front of power door lock switch. Do this by putting a screwdriver in the top side of the gap on the front and pry it towards the front of the truck carefully. the clip will release allowing the switch to be removed. unplug from harness & set switch aside
3. unscrew and remove door lock from top of door. set aside.
4. remove screw from grab handle pocket of armrest. slide armrest backwards and then up to remove. set armrest aside.
5. remove the 2 or 3 screws hidden behind the armrest mounting location.
6. use a flat bladed screwdriver to POP out all the white plastic snaps between the door panel and the metal part of the door.
7. once all plastic snaps have been undone, slide door panel upwards while pulling outwards slightly to clear the lock mechanism and it can be removed.

Now, you can get to the speaker easily.

Datz has the procedure right. There are three hidden screws behind the arm rest. It is easier to remove and reinstall the panel with the window down. I put some new door speakers in this past weekend, not much trouble at all.
