I saw the M5, but the only difference I could tell was that it is wireless for hooking up to the laptop. I don't think I need that, so I went with the M3. I'll let you know how it works out. I have a Garmin GPS V but I do not like it. Hopefully this will be a lot better.

Well I got it. So far the concept is cool, but I am having trouble unlocking the maps. All I can say is Garmin SUCKS for tech support. I have a 30 -35 minute wait as of right now. Mad

The unlock is done online.. after which they give you a code to put into Mapsource, which unlocks the map and allows download to your unit.

I havent had any issues with mine. You need the unit Serial Number and the unlock certificate code that is in the packaging. Where are you stuck at?

It's done. I had an old version of Mapsource on my PC and I was trying to put V4 in the unit instead of V7. It's done know. Know all I have to do is go play with it to get familiar with it. Thanks for your help though.

Yeah, the only reason why i would consider that setup is because my laptops is quite small. Its the Sony Vaio VGN-S460. weighs like 3 lbs Smile

I'm always worried about all the dust around my laptop though. The GPS V is sealed up and doesnt care about that (or water to 1 meter depth for that matter).

Try looking on eBay for nicely priced V's. That's where I got mine.

I got a eTrex Legend for Christmas and it's alright. It has some features I haven't seen on another GPS, and some missing that I wanted. But for under $200 it's perfect. I found some free software for the lappy to make good use of it.

I got a Magellan explorist 400 for Cmas and it seems fine. I don't know much about it yet but when I installed the software, it didn't work with windows xp so I needed to talk to Magellan which was tough. They never amswer the phone, I was on hold for 2 hours and hung up finaly. Email got a responce in a week and after faxing my proof of purchase to them, it took a few days for a new set of cd's to arrive, and they work. Also the cord that attaches to the back is a funny 6 pin connector that can be accidently put on back wards. I had got it to charge like that, but then when I connected to the pc, the pc didn't recognize it, and I spent 2 days trying to figure out why, then I took the cord off and tried it the other way and it worked, stupid design I think. Anyway, I don't know, it all seems so f'n complicated with a book that reads like a technical novel. I'll just follow you guys. Big Grin

Check out http://radioworld.ca They were selling the iQue3600 (i posted about it in the GPS section) for $300CDN for old customers and $350 for new. You may want to consider giving them a shout. They had a few of those units out on eBay as well.
