I have a 91 hardbody that didn't come with a tach and I wanted to hook one up. What wire do I need to tap into coming off the coil? It has a KA24E.

Well I have a KA24DE and on mine the coil is inside the distributer. So I had a challenge. However, if your coil is outside the distributer then you've got it easy.
So, you've got your signal wire (you might call it a sending wire) on mine it was green. Black is always going to be your ground (as with any other car wiring just connect it to a bolt that is in a metal part of the truck.) There will probably be two power wires, one for a internal light and one for the power to run the tach. If you don't already have I suggest you get a test light. http://www.installer.com/photos/testlight.jpg Find a ground by clamping the light to the bolt you want to use. With the key out but the battery still connected pull a fuse and put the stick end of the light in the socket. Do this until you get the light to light up. You've found your ground. (the bolt you connected the light to) As for the two power wires, find a fuse that is on when your lights are on (use the method you used when finding a ground), connect the wire that powers the internal light. The other wire should go to a fuse that is on when the truck is on. The sending wire goes the the stud on the coil that is labeled (-). ======================================= 1998 D22, 4x4, KA24DE, C200 (open), R180(open), 31x10.50 r15, King Cab, 5speed |

Dont bother doing all that. The wires are right behind your gauge cluster. Use a test light to see which wire ir the main lead and power lead. Also a plug for the factory clock. If you are looking for a factory tach for a Nissan Pathy or HB, give me an email. I got one.
I have an '89 Nissan Hardbody King Cab with a Chevy truck/Blazer 4" suspension lift and 3" body lift. It will soon have a TBI 350, SM-465 4 speed trans and 208 T-case rounded off with 39" tires. |

david, I'm confused. Are you saying to just use wiring behind the cluster for the power wires? Or is there also a sending wire behind there too?
For me it was allot easier to run new wire to the fuse block then taking the cluster out. However, I got the D22. I looked a diagram that would tell me where a stock sending wire was but I couldn't find the right color on the truck. But none the less, I 'm sure the hardbody is different and I'm always wanting the learn how other rigs works. ======================================= 1998 D22, 4x4, KA24DE, C200 (open), R180(open), 31x10.50 r15, King Cab, 5speed |

Mines in the distro. So I probed the connections coming out of the distro and one was sending a signal (pulse) so I jammed a wire in there
