I got a 1000 Watt AC inverter for my B-day.
Anyone run one of these things before? It is saying I need dual marine batteries for a ideal setup? I can't run it with just one battery?
I know 2 batteries would probably be better.
Here's a pic of it. Costco sells them for $69 seems like a pretty good deal for the money.

I did see Zuk's install on his 1000 Watt Inverter from Pirate4x4 nothing listed if just one battery was enough for his setup.

Usually these things have a surge rating and a steady state rating..
Is the surge rating 1000 watts while the steady state is 500? Or 2000 watt surge and 1000 watt steady state? If that later- that's a great deal Chug.
YOu don't need dual batteries. The better inverters will stop working ( and give a warning beep beep) when the battery voltage drops below a threshold level. That helps warn you that the charge is too low before you can't turn over your starter because you've drained the battery so you could power up the coffee maker Razz.

It's just a better situation if you have a marine battery you can drain( they handle it better than regular startiing batteries).
NO big deal if you don't have duals- just not ideal.

That's a great deal. Does it have the low power warning I talked about?... that will save you from dischargin your battery to death.

Yes it has a low and high voltage sense as well as a indicator light and it shuts down the inverter when the voltage drops below or it is above normal.

I also picked up a AC Delco CS130 105 amp alternator for $30 from a local junkyard and it is a reman it has a test date of 5/19/2000 so I don't think I will being having problems with it for a while everything on it looks and feels solid I had it tested tonight and it puts out 15 volts... Big Grin I also wrote down the pinouts on the toyota and and the AC delco alternator so all I have to do is splice them together and put a larger 8 gauge wire to the battery from the alternator with a 100-120 amp fuse. The top bracket is the same the lower bracket should work all I have to find is a bolt to go in the lower bracket attachment on the alternator.

Hey SHAD,

Could you post the specs for that: Manufacturer, Brand Name, Model No., L-W-D, and all the features. That would be really helpful info.

Thanks,

Ricochet

Ricochet,

In case you're still interested, the specs can be found here

Costco also carries the Coleman 400 watt (continuous) inverter for only $25 (it's $60 in Cabela's). I set the first one on fire, but the second one seems to be holding up okay.

Regards,

-matt
