Well I finnaly got around to looking at the factory radio, the double DIN tape and cd unit. It's a 95 pathfinder and the freq display was caput. Turns out that there was a surface mount resistor that had come loose. Basically took the top off after removing the 4 perimiter screws and the face plate. now remove the three screws that hold the tape mechanism in place and the two screws that hold the PCB down. Now pull the pcb and tape mech as a unit from the housing. With it on a work surface with the tape opening facing you, look on the left side of the PCB about 1/2 inch back there should be a black SMD resistor there if it's still there resolder the joints. On my wifes it had fallen off entirely and was loose in the radio. Either way resolder it down carefully, there'snotmuch room in there, button it back up and put it back in the truck. With any luck you'll have the LCD back.
