I've replaced my autozone starter 3 times now. Every year about this time it goes out. The solinoid just started to stick last month and it's only a matter of time again. Anyone have good luck with aftermarket starters? Just tired of doing starter swaps.

Just had good luck w/ my OEM( original).

TRy hitting up one of the sponsors on the home page for a new OEM starter. I ALWAYS save some dough getting parts through them vs local dealers.

Tell them you want the N4W discount.

I went through the same thing, but if there was a bright side, they were under warranty. After the third one, I insisted on a different brand.
The got me a Bosche rebuilt starter. For a while it sounded like it would grind itself apart, but it works like a champ, now. I have had it quite a while, now.
I made the decision, however, that the next time I have to reach in my pocket to pay for a starter, it will be OEM. I need my truck to be reliable when I am in the middle of nowhere.

It's a fine line between clever and stupid.

NEW Bosche (not rebuilt) or OEM is what you want. Go online and order the best. Since they sell to people buying on price they usually don't keep the high quality expensive stuff in the store.

I bought one at Advance in early 2004. I dunno who made it. It's probably a refurb. It started crapping out recently.

Yeah mine is a Duratrash, whoops I mean Duralast.

Like I say every year when it is mind numbing cold out. The solinoid starts to stick. I live with it till I have to open the hood and give it a whack.

OEM starter was good but really worn lasted 160,000 miles. I took it to have it rebuilt, the rebuilder said it was worn badly and would need replacement soon. He trued the comm tossed some new brushes in for $20. I was back on the road for a long while. Then the comm sections broke off. I was playing russan roulette with the starter. Sometimes it would start sometimes you would hit the dead spot and get nothing. I'd park on a hill or have a freind push so I could roll then pop the clutch. It would be just enough to allow the brushes to just roll over the missing section of comm and start.

Replaced that starter with the Duralast one. Starter Solinoid bit the dust.

Brought it in for warranty.
That one came down with a bad solinoid.

In for warranty
And now the truck is doing the dreaded turn the key get nothing. Turn the key again it starts if your lucky.

Thinking about trying to replace the Clutch switch relay. Inhibbitor relay, starter relay whatever you want to call it.

I really don't want to have to take the starter off at least till it's warm again. It's a horrible job with cold hands and ice slop falling on your face.

I know within the next 2yrs I'll be replacing my starter. It takes a beating off road. I would check the relays. It's extremely rare for them to be just bad.

I plan to go with a oem unit. I'm at 109K still starting strong.

I always go with OEM on parts for my Nissans. Most of the parts have lasted over 100,000 miles so why mess with anything else?

I've had similar problems with autozone/csk starters/alternators etc. so for my Chevy's I get my parts from NAPA.
