As an aside, maybe she can get "scoopage"( also) on GSA vehicle auctions/ forest service auctions?

A senior friend of mine just came back from a GSA auction near Lake Arrowhead- said 3-6 year old 4x4 trucks w/ less than 50K miles were going for 3K-4K$- FOrd's and DOdge's mainly - diesel and gasssers. One 4 yr old,4x4 F350 V-10 went for 2 grand.

Lots of trucks to sell and not many buyers.

So, apparently this means one could register quads, rhinos, and other off-highway vehicles AS A MOTOR VEHICLE. Might be an easy way for buggies to become street legal.

Depends on the vehicle and the land. The Off Highway Vehicle Indicia mentioned above is for toys under 1800 pounds. To be on State Trust Land you need a State Trust permit which can be obtained through the mail by calling 602.364.ASLD (2753), or by visiting the Land Department office in Phoenix. Different districts of National Forest in Arizona have different requirements and you get those permits when needed from different places depending on the details. Bureau of Land Management land has no special permit but different areas may have different rules. The one constant in Arizona is that it is up to the poor schmoe out enjoying the land to know where they are and what the rules are. There's a mess of 'em.

So AZ is a weird state. Every off road area has different sets of rules and permits required. It's up to the user to know the rules and requirements before using the land. Why cant it just be uniform?

The best thing you can do if you own quads, dirtbikes, other OHVs is to make them street legal (lights, horn, mirror, license plate light). That way, you won't have to worry about what roads / trails you can drive on. Also, you won't have to buy the new OHV sticker.

You will still, however, have to purchase a state trust land permit, if you intend to use those areas.
