How hard is the clutch replacement?
Is it hard to undo the torsion bars to get the tranny out? I am afraid to ask what a shop would charge!! I have done cluthes before, but did not have to deal with torsion bars or a crossmember that could not be removed. David |

There are a few things that make the clutch replacement on the Pathfinder a bit more difficult than average. I had to replace mine last year, and it took twice as long as other 4x4's I've had over the years. I could knock out the clutch on my '71 Scout in about 4 hours working at a leisurely pace. A '93 Toyota pickup took about 6 hours. This Pathfinder took about 10 - 12.
The torsions bars and the crossmember for them must be removed. No biggie, just extra time to remove and install the tbars and their crossmember, then adjust ride height when done. I didn't bother removing the tbars from the adjuster arms at the crossmember, just unbolt them at the lower control arms and drop the whole shebang as an assembly after backing off the adjuster bolts. The exhaust crossover pipe must be removed. This cost me some time due to corroded fasteners in the exhaust system, had a good bit of trouble here. Many of the bellhousing bolts are very difficult to access, several of which face the front of the truck. My Pathy has a body lift which helps immensely. Very long extensions and wobbly sockets are required IMO. Other than that it was pretty straightforward.
