I'm running duel straight pips off of the cat. Idles quiet, don't hear the exhaust on the interstate.

I don't have any experience with the performance mufflers. Look into a exhaust tip/with baffles. Might give you nice sound.

I added a glass pack (Cherry Bomb) behind mine. No added restriction; MUCH quieter. Smile

It will fit if your FM40 is where your cat used to be.

You might also consider replacing your muffler bearings. (clicky)

i have thorleys, a high flow cat and flowmaster 50. It has a soft drone when cruising and a little bit of a growl when it gets up in rpm's under load. It sounds good, but not aggresive. 2.25" piping

Smell ya later!

Since it's been getting cold outside, you might want to change the air in your tires to the appropriate season. Seasonal Tire Air for sale.

There are bearings inside a muffler?

Not all, but especially those used in conjunction with a single or dual O-pipe.

sirjim, I usually buy my blinker fluid directly from KaleCoAuto.com but they are currently sold out. Can you believe it? I hope mine don't go dry before they get more in.

I ran Thrush super turbo's on my old Ford Crown Vic (ex-cop car) and it made such a difference. I tried one on the '89 HB V-6 and it sounded great, no highway drone but smooth sound.

i HATE the droning. i run pacesetter long tubes, catco high flow cat and a flowmaster 40 or 50 3 chamber. it does not drone at all. not very loud either.
the cat makes all the difference. before i redid my exhaust i ran with nothing but the factory cat and it was only slightly louder than the current setup.

Hey ya'll,

I'm running a Borla Cat-back which I've heard is the same exact muffler that Nissan MotorSports and Nismo uses. It sounds great(loud for some but not I) and doesn't annoy me NEARLY as much as an Intake during sustained Highway driving.

You guys really need theO Pipe (Dual Exhaust) then you don't need mufler bearings. I also figured out how it benifits so much! Its a term I call perpetual scavenging, its what keeps ya goin right?

Anyway I have 18" magnaflow mufler 2.5" ID, b4 I cut it off @ the mufler it wasnt too bad( also have the headers) I may be selling it soon, if I decide my new O pipe is too quiet. It's had 2" reducers welded to it for stock exhust but u could cut them off. also running 2.25 exhaust from the mufler back will cut down on allot of your noise, recuce backfire from downshifting, decelating (the poping sound common of some vehiles w/ headders and larger than stock exhaust)
the magnaflow is a straight thru pipe w/ insulation to dampen sound w/o flow reduction. A new one runs $75 and weighs about 10 lbs shipped.(incase you consider making and offer)

My brother put new exhaust pipes on his Mustang GT right after he bought it new. Guess where one of the two old exhaust went? The old HB seems to like em'. My point is, try looking around for some newer performance stock take offs.
