I have a 1994 Path, 4x4, Auto that's suffering yet again. She's getting old with 258,000+ miles, and I'm suspecting that there's a bearing going out in something like the water pump, or alternator, or something...

I'm getting a whinny windy roaring noise under acceleration (anything over 20 mph) and a power loss. She's having trouble getting up to speed, and uphill is harsh on the ol gal. Considering I'm going on a 3,000 road trip over two mountian ranges while towing over 5,000 pounds in a mere matter of weeks here, I am a bit worried.

Do any of you all know what could be going on here?

Pick up a mechanic's stethescope and see if you can isolate the source of the noise.

If its a bearing up front on the engine, it should be relatively easy to pinpoint it with that tool.

If I had the time off work I would. But I don't. I think I'll have to drop this off at the dealership closest to work and see if they can help.

I'd ditto on the fan cluth if it sounds like a roaring noise of lots of air moving. I've had several fan clutches go out and this wind noise is the tell tale sign.

So I went out on break, checked the big white fan, and this thing doesn't turn well.

Turning it to the passenger side was sluggish. turning it to the drivers side, hit a hard spot, then was really hard to turn.

Shouldn't the thing move freely??? Confused

I called up the local Nissan, and ordered one up. They said they had a bunch on hand since they're failing on all the older nissans, but they ran out a little while ago...
The earliest they can get it is Thursday morning. So I bumped my appointment out to noon on Thursday.
