I was wondering if replacing shocks is going to be an easy job to do by my self or if i need help? also i was wondering if the rancho 5000 were ok to put in the rear of my 1995 pathfinder xe 4x4 5 speed 4dr.

also i was wondering if it was possible to put one of those stock external tire holder things on my pathfinder. it did not come with one stock and i want one.

shocks are an easy DIY job. If you are in new york, it'll be best if you have a garage you can do it in. The rear shocks use a 17mm wrench to get the retainer nuts off top and bottom.

It shouldnt take more than an hour or so, even if you've never done rear shocks before.

yes it is a DIY job. You might as well do all 4 while you are at it. I installed ProCOmp ES9000s a couple of weeks ago and am happy with them. If your stock I think they are a good buy.

Not sure about the tire carrier. I guess the question is wheather the trucks without the carrier have the necessary reinforcement in the pillar.

You can put a carrier on with little to no effort minus one part. Go to the salvage and get the carrier and brackets inside the body panel. So far I have not found a way to get the lower piece out of a truck. It is $25-30 from Nissan I think and a pain in the ass to get in there.

The two pieces that the latch and guide bolt into are already inside the body panel (below the lift gate) so you just drill a pilot hole and then enlarge to whatever size the bolt is. They are marked with dimples in the sheet metal.

not to highjack the thread too much, but are there any manufacturers of a bumper mounted spare tire carrier? I tried to locate the "dimples" in the sheetmetal for a non-stock tire carrier mount, but the back end of mind is kinda dented. I need to replace the rear bumper anyways, so I was kinda thinking of finding one with a spare tire mount. Any ideas??? Sorry, the highjack is over...

Check the sheetmetal below the rear door.

I dont think the holes for the hinges will be marked, so you'd be on your own for those.

The dimples are for the two brackets that go with the tire carrier. One is the latch and the other is a guide to line the carrier up with the latch.

As for the brackets that hold the carrier to the truck, there are no dimples or indicators of any kind. Mount the bottom two brackets first then set the carrier up against the truck and mark your holes. Make sure the carrier is about level when marking them.
