It's been done with great effort. The Z31 community has all but given up on T5 swapping at that level. I've used lots of internal parts for domestic T5's but know there is a limit to how similar they are.

I could be wrong here, but I don't think that is the kind of work he is looking to do here. Sounds like he wants a simple way to get some more power from the truck and 4wd capability is kinda low on the list.

you're right for now at least, this is still my daily driver and so forth.
it'll get getting suspension work, but just no heavy duty solid axle.

Hey Steevo - It's good to read ya bro. The bottom line here guys is that you can do whatever you want if you can afford it or more justify it. The SOHC VG engines can make SERIOUS hp with forged induction but performance isn't cheap and reliable performance is super expensive. With proper tuning and even the stock 9-1 compression ratio on the N/A vg's one could easily get 400-500 hp with the stock block.

So, I wouldn't even consider wasting my money whether rich of poor on a VG33R swap. THe Supercharged Nissan used on that VG is a bulky POS.

How much power does one want? If the answer is more then 240 crank HP then get our your wallet!

You can't use TT manifolds. They are completely different.

You CAN turbo the engine with not much effort. The problems comes in getting the turbo to clear the frame rail.

If you did custom manifolds and put 1 or 2 turbos up front that wouldn't be an issue. But then you have to relocate all your accessories.

IF you have a body lift, you can use a VG33R intake and supercharger on a VG30. But it won't clear the hood w/o the lift.

Phil from L&P did it with a VG30I intake manifold which works but is probably sits even higher. It did allow him to use a larger supercharger than the stock nissan unit I believe.

LOTS of ways to make more power. You just have to do your research.

There is a company that makes a kit for your rig. It was around 3000 bucks I believe and it bolts on. I have the details saved on my old hard drive, but don't have access to that right now. Someone here probly remembers it, it was a couple years ago when we found out about it. They mentioned it on their website too but at the time all they showed was a price and some small details. Maybe search the word turbo on this board, I'm sure it's there.

It Never Ends...

BUT if you let someone borrow your junk, wifey or girlfriend or mom or dad, and they don't know how to drive a rig with a locker, when they hit ice/snow they is so gonna crash that mofo! -Rondo

i will look at using the vg33r manifold and charger on my stock unit. that sounds like the
cheapest way to experiment with it for now.
and if i blow a vg30 motor, they are cheap to get. how much of a body lift is required?

If you follow common sense you won't hurt a vg30. As for body lift I have no idea. I personally have not put one in a truck chassis. Since they body lifts only come in 2 and 3 inch and no one seems to stock a 2 inch, I'd say go with the 3.

i priced out what seem like most of the pieces for the supercharger on the vg30, looks like i'm gonna go for it, prolly tune it with an old SAFC controller i have. any other info you could give me, or websites with someone who has down it before?

I am not sure what will physically drop in injector wise. But I think prolly something off a later model VG or SR could be used. There is some work being done to make adjustments to this ecu via external hardware. Would be cheaper than a SAFC and work better. But would not be as easy. Kinda big tradeoff there.

Actually that is AUD. Just under $5k USD. Smile

Agreed that is too much. But for people that got too much money, sure why not.

Gut that gives you an idea of what I've been describing. Use whatever SC unit you like. M90's are my favorite and have plenty of flow, but they are a bit of money.
