Me, but haven't used it for awhile( I need to though)

Are you drilling from nothing to 5/8" in one shot? IOW is there a pilot hole?

HOw fast is the drill press going?

The hole is 9/16" now. It was 1/2", then tapered down to a smaller size.

The 1/2 -> 9/16 went real fast with the drill press. The 5/8" is a different story. I'm going to get back on it tomorrow I hope. Had finals today.

would there be any way to drill the pitman without pulling it. I really don't want to pull the pitman.

Yes I think it's possible. I started it last week but the bit was dead. Having the steering locked will help. Start it with a 9/16" bit, then go to 5/8".

The idler is now finished after fixing the 5/8" bit numerous times.

I'll start again on the pittman later today and probably post some photos tonight.

Bill, I was moving slow with the press. It kept hanging up if I tried to put any real pressure on it. The press is about 40 years old and the belt slips. Wink

I almost finished everything yesterday. It got dark. There's about 1/8" to go on the pittman. Got some new TREs today. Now if the rain will just stop for a few hours...

Will, what RPM? CAn you arrange the belts to reduce it any more? Sounds like high speed is killing the bit.

There's no way to tension the belts?

I'm sure there's a way but it's too late now. The idler is done and the pittman isn't coming off the truck.

I need to go finish that...

I finished the pittman yesterday. Finally.

So I might have time today to bolt everything together and align it. I'm going to try out the new laser alignment doodad the shop bought Wink The fishing line method takes too long.

I drove it to my parent's house and back and everything's still together. The steering feels much better. Smile

I had this noise coming from the passenger front. So this morning I jacked the front up and there's tons of play where the inner TREs bolt to the CL on both sides. I bought small-taper TREs so I'm thinking they sent a CL with big tapers.

So I was wondering, just how much bigger are the bigger-taper TREs?

Heading down to the parts store to find out...

edit: The large tapered TREs fit. So they sent the wrong CL...so does anybody want a pair of small-taper backwards-threaded TREs? Free if you come get em Wink
