I we put a moser 9" w/ 3.89 gears in my friends 99 z28 and we also swapped to a newer aluminum diveshaft. He said I could have the old aluminum one and said it would be neat if I could get it on the pathy. that being said I took some measurements; center to center of each u-joint bearing.
Pathy 38"
Camaro 41"

That being known, does anyone know how deep tranny yoke will slide in?
It might work @ ride height but with the more than 3" extra will it slam something B4 suspensoin can bottom out?

how do you mate steel yoke to AL driveshaft?

And why would you want an AL driveshaft on the trails? It's not going to be as rugged as steel. WIll crack/unravel/break instead of dent/bend, imo.

The stock slip yoke is 3-4 inches long. If you measured center to center at 38 then thats how long your drive shaft needs to be.

If you got a DC welder just cut and weld the camaro shaft.

Hillbille is right a aluminum drive shaft off road is just dumb. It would make a good spare to get you back to camp if need be.

That's too long. Even with 6"+ of lift, you'd only want to be about an inch longer than stock unless you're relocating the rear housing further back.

You could have it cut down and rewelded, but aluminum shafts won't take rock rash like a steel one. Their only benefit is lighter weight.

Um easy, take the slip yoke off of the U-joint attched to the steel DS and put it on the U-joint attached to the alluminum one.

The AL Driveshaft is pretty beefey Its a very large diameter and very light weight. I don't see myself in any sitations where I will hi-center or scrape the driveshaft so "crack/unravel/break" is not my biggest concern. His V8 with 320hp and over 330 ft lbs RWT being dumped on it in hard launches has defenetly poven its strength so I doubt my little 133 ft lb RWT is gonna harm it. I just thought if it would be easier to do than his Mosser 9" than maybe I would do it for $#!t$ and giggles.
thanks all for the input, I can't weld AL so my take that is unless I find somone would weld it for cheap it's prolly not worth it.

EDIT:
I also discovered that I would have to run "combo-uni's" cause the pathy's u-joints are smaller.

You would twist that POS aluminum driveshaft into a mess if you are in 4LO... I dont care how much torque he has. I also doubt they make a 1310 to pathfinder combo joint. you will have to get hard body slip joint and rear flange. Still you are left with a weak driveshaft.

Ya thinks so? tho its AL its much larger diameter and its machined w/ gussets where the U-joints go. seems to me it would be stonger?

Much larger diameter is bad because you will contact the crossmember. I have seen the stock AL driveshafts fail on stock chevy trucks. AL is alot softer than steel and as soon as it gets a ding in the tube it will fail quickly. Stick with the stock driveshaft and sell that one to camaro guy.
