SO I just got new tires and went from 31's to 32's. They are BFG All Terrains.. The tire shop filled them to 40 psi, this seems a little high to me. At this pressure my foot print seems pretty narrow, even just for highway driving. When I had my HB with 33's I ran them at 33-35 psi. 35 psi seems to also give me a normal foot print on these 32's. Does anybody have any opinions on pressure for this size tire.

IMO Pathys are pretty light compared to most the veicles tire shops usually puts those on. If it weghed more than 5000+lbs the footprint might flaten out but since I think a stock pathy is barely 4000lbs you'll prolly be better off running closer to 35 psi like you said.

YOu can always chalk the tread, drive a
short distance , and see if it rubs off all across the face of the tread. Adjust the pressure, rechalk and check again until you get it in the ballpark.

Then, for the long term, get a tread depth gauge, and measure the depth at center and on the sides. I would ignore the last 1/2" , or so , of tread depth near the sidewalls...

Lower or raise the pressure to even out the wear across the face as you rack up the miles.

NOte: rim width will also affect wear. A narrower wheel will tend to need less pressure to get even wear, whereas a wider wheel will need more, by comparison.

A few years back I ran BFG AT's- onthe front only-for 70,000 miles. The only way for me to get even wear across the face of the tread was to run them at 50 psi. Any less-the edges wore like crazy.

why not just fill it to the specs on the tire? they tell you what the tire is rated for... fill it within 5-10lbs of that and you'll be straight

Because that pressure spec is for the max load, and rim width will affect the carcass profile for a given load and pressure.

And folks like to get the most mileage they can from their tires.

On my stock 15X7's I went with 35psi in the front and 32psi in the rear. Seemed dead on for me, even wear all around

Lowered them to 15-18psi when wheelin.

I just filled mine up to about 40. One gauge read 38 and the other read 40. I've been using about this much since the tires were new and there's at least 30k miles on them. The wear is low and even, but the alignment is spot on too.

That's 32x11.50 Dunlops on lego 15x7s.

Thanks for all your input guys... I have them on 8" wides plus BFG's have really stiff sidwalls. So I think for now I will run them at 35 psi, with slightly less in rear. Then I will check them later on.

I'm pretty sure the specs on the tire are for your safety (so as not to over-inflate) and if the specs say "inflate to 28-45 PSI MAX" then WTF?
thats why the load the tire was designed for is variable and so is the inflation.

I've never seen an xx-yy MAX listed. It's always a single pressure, which is paired with a max load. There is never a reason to run the max pressure, your vehicle can't possibly weigh 4x the max tire load.

When did you last check your spare tire's pressure?
