I have a 94 pathy 5 speed and when the AC is on, the RPM's drop like a rock when upshifting gears, to the point where I give it gas before releasing the clutch (to make a smoother shift).
AC works fine, engine never dies or bogs. Does this model have a mechanism to prevent the throttle from dropping too fast? Something like an idle up solenoid used when the AC is on? When the AC is off, I have no issues. Thanks, David |

yes, there is a fast idle control device(FICD)
on my 89 its part of the throttle body and it to set it correctly let your engine warm up, note the idle. turn the a/c on full-cold with full air blower(keeps the compressor working, it'll shut off periodically if your not demanding enough cold) now your A/C full idle should be @ the very least; the same as your unlaiden idle but it won't hurt to set it 50-100 rpm higler if you feel you must. If this is totally differant on the MPFI pathy's somone plz correct me. thx d21 for the correction =================================== mostly stock(for now) '89 Pathfinder XE over 210k and running good! Just for clarification, the FICD does not touch the plenum butterfly to increase RPM's. All the solenoid does is open an air passageway in the throttle body.
This is for TBI intakes only, not sure how its set up for MPFI. Scott 86.5 HB SE-V6 KC 4x4 86.5 HB Longbed XE 91 Chevy 1500 Sport |
