Finalized a deal on a new Kawasaki cruiser! Wanted to stay Japanese and the Kawasakis had best value for features. Here's the model:

http://www4.kawasaki.com/Products/detail.aspx?id=278&content=introduction

I take my safety course this weekend. Can't wait to get it out on the road. Will probably take delivery next week since the dealer is adding a windshield, bags and a handlebar riser for me.

I wouldn't want to pay your insurance bill. After 500cc the ins costs really start to escalate.

YOu did budget money for a good set of leathers? Remember the mantra: there're are those that have fallen and those that will.

There is no third group.

Bill: Yea, I rode a Kawasaki KZ900 many years ago. But I'm not kidding myself, I've lost a lot of reaction time and I'm not nearly as strong as I used to be. That's why the safety course first. Most riders don't actually wear leathers in AZ due to the heat. I've ordered a set of Joe Rocket "Phoenix-5" mesh body armor and a full face helmet. Far more protective than leathers and cool on the road. Should protect me well for my 10 mile round trip commute!

Congrats! Nice looking bike! Looks like it will be a beast to take the MSF course on.

I will have my bike back on the road in a few weeks and I have to take a MSF refresher course. It's going to end up costing me more than driving the car alone.

+ Premium gas
+ Insurance
+ Tires don't last long

And even though the engine is half the size of my car, it runs at about twice the RPMs on the highway....if I can restrain myself and keep the speed down.

The class is in Prescott and they supply the training bikes. There all Honda 250 twins that weigh under 300 lbs. No way would I try and horse that Meanie around a skills course

Great Choice, The mean streak is an awesome bike. Same difference as the Suzuki marauder.
Post pics once you get her home. Congrats.

The pics I linked to are for the Special Edition. Mine is black with chrome. I actually tried to buy a used special edition that already had the windshield, bags, a Cobra 2 into 1 pipe, a power commander, and a dyno tune. Bank wouldn't pony up for the accessories so I just bought a new one. I figure it'll run plenty strong stock off the showroom floor. I don't really need another 20-25 HP right now anyway.

In Texas 1 liter bikes and up are cheaper than 1 liter and below on insurance. The idea is that most bikes under 1 liter are sport bikes, though there are lots of new sport bikes coming out that are 1 liter and larger. The insurance on Zachs 1 liter Ducati is cheaper than his wife's 700cc Ducati and Zachs Ducati is much more of a sport bike. They seem to go on size alone..

In Phoenix I'd operate a car over a motorcycle anyday, for a daily driver..

A guy that I work with told me there is nothing for him to worry about becuase he can see everything coming and knows how to react..

Yeah... right...
