I saw a 95 or 96 Chevy 350 vortec, 5spd and transfer case plus all wiring junk recently for $1300. It supposedly came from a wrecked truck with 40k miles. Seems like a good price to me...what do you think?

I am considering putting this kind of stuff in my 77 Patrol Ute. So just a couple questions...

what is the model of 5spd found in 1990's Chevy's that has the low, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and then OD? I have this box in my 94 Chevy and it seems awesome but no idea what model the box is. Is this box center rear and center front or offset front?

last question....Atlas kits available for this 5spd Chevy box?

Box will be an nv4500. Drivers drop tcase. should be a 241. Don't know for sure that an atlas is available, but I'd expect there to do, as the tranny was used extensively accross multiple brands. $1300 seems steep for that, looking around you can find whole trucks for not much more.

Is the NV4500 a 5 spd with granny? does it have other gearing options or is it always a 5spd with granny?

NV4500 goes L-1-2-3-OD, one of the versions has the first couple gears a little lower than the other version, but they're pretty much the same...bulletproof.

And if you ever get the chance to take one apart, it's actually a 4spd (L-1-2-3) with an overdrive tacked on OUTSIDE the main case. Wild stuff kids.

alright NV4500...have to try and log that in my brain and remember it.

There is a guy around town here with a 60 series TLC with the NV4500, 350v8, Atlas, 14bolt and dana 60 with lockers. Hope to start wheeling with him...problem just been my truck is down being worked on.

The MQ/MK Patrol 5spd has an overdrive bolted to the back end of it. Not sure if you could bolt that OD box onto a 4spd but it isn't a 5spd all in one box. So I guess I am familiar with what you are saying...

Seems like a sweet tranny, like I say got one in a 94 work truck. Really like that L crawler gear.

So drivers drop huh. That of course means no Patrol diffs under the Ute. I suppose danas come in drivers drop? Anything else...9" or 14bolt?

So what is a good price for a 350 & NV4500? I am pretty sure there is an Atlas for it, almost positive. So I would just go that route since an Atlas is pretty affordable.

Not going to do this to the Ute anytime soon but in a year or two maybe. Heck it is sounding better already though just due to cost of the junk.

Driver drop D50s and D60s (full width) are in 99+ Super duties, and D60s in 94+ 3/4 ton+ Dodges. Half ton Dodges 94-01 have D44s - full width.

77-79 F150s and 78-79 full size broncos have a high pinion driver drop D44 with disc brakes. (5 lug)

80-91 Wagoneers have Driver drop D44s that are narrower (60.5") - just avoid the vacuum disconnect axles. There's tons of info on these axles in various threads in Skidplate Alley.

A Ford 9" was never an OEM front axle, though Currie Enterprises makes a 9" front that's bombproof, but it's also high dollar.
