Recently I had had the idea of putting a higher stall TQ in my rig, somewhere around 2000-2200 RPM. The deal is that my 4.3 makes enough power once it gets wound up, but it has some trouble at the bottom of steeper hills when you dont have room to get it revedh up any. I have though about gearing down some more but I dont want to lose any more wheel speed. Is a higher stall TQ a good solution?

That'll have it's drawbacks, especially when rock crawling. It'll make the truck lurch a lot because you'll continually be needing to wind it up to engage the trans.

I have 4:1 in the t-case already, I dont want to loose any more wheel speed as it is. At the moment it tops out at about jogging speed when in low range.

I went with a high torque, stock stall speed converter. They put more fins in so that it slips less down low.

Possibly, I have been considering getting a second motor to build some and put it in there. The 4.3's are pretty cheap so I could do that I guess. The only problem with that is that I dont really know anything about building motors and what parts to do was as far as choosing cams and such.

The cool thing with the American engines is you can buy a custom crate engine built the way you want for the same price it would cost you to do it your self.

When it comes to building engines it's best to take it to a professional engine builder. Most machine shops will build up a engine the way you want.
